2 days and around 4 hours…..then it’s holiday for me….and a new job…..so all is to change in the New Year!
There’s something very satifying about breaking up for xmas, I always make sure I have enough leave left for a good break, and this year is an extra bumper 3 weeks. I have of course already filled each day with plans to shop/DIY/music/etc….all of which will go completely up the wall and I won’t get around to any of it. Then I’ll find myself running around shops on the 23rd in a state of utter panic trying to buy anything!
Still, there’s always the drinking to look forward to, I generally like to start a couple of days before the 25th…sink into a jollyish drunken haze, then aim to maintain this through to New Years Eve, when I drink so much that I decide I’m giving up alcohol for the year (which then usually lasts about a week).
still, Happy Days!

In my never ending search for a good commuting listen I’ve spend the past 2 weeks catching up on ‘The Complete Guide to Everything’, two top blokes from New York providing a range of highly researched and quality information on a plethora of subjects, from Hip Hop to Bathroom Etiquette.
If you’re looking for a really good listen I’d recommend checking them out, and why not join their Facebook fan page (search for Complete Guide), or follow them on Twitter; @completeguide. You can also find out more at their web page www.tcgte.com.
Unfortunately I’m now almost up to speed with their latest release, so it’s going to be a 1 day a week fix going forward. Time to start the research again, there’s 6 hours of car time to fill!
Just as a warning, don’t make the same mistake as I did last week. I had the iPod playing in the Supermarket with a particularly comical sequence about Colonic Irrigation, there are now around 40 people from my local area who have me down as the loony laughing bloke who hangs around the shops giggling!
PS iTunes, search for ‘The Complete Guide to Everything’

I stand accused, once again, of wishing my life away by a Facebook chum. Every once in a while I express my pleasure in the speed in which the week is slipping by, and rapidly approaching the weekend. I must admit I do perceive Saturday and Sunday to be an oasis from the desert of work and routine! Monday to Friday always feels like sitting on the roof of a high speed Pendalino racing through the stations. A typical day is -
- Up at 6.30am for shower, shave, suit, commute for 9am
- 9am-5pm attempting to trawl through the workload and put out fires, stop fights, etc
- 5pm-6pm sit in a stationary car
- 6pm-7.30pm stop the kids killing each other, destroying the house, and getting some food in them
- 7.30pm-9pm either running, at the gym or vegetating as a result of the previous days exercise
- 9pm occasionally watching something of interest on the tv
- 10pm the dreaded sandwich making
- 10.30pm trying to muster the energy to get of the sofa and go to bed
- 11.30pm waking up on the sofa having failed to muster the energy to get up
Then we start all over again.
So the thought of having two full empty days is a pleasant one.
I’ve tried a number of techniques to bring some added energy to weekdays; drinking (not a good idea), not drinking (didn’t make much difference), going to bed earlier (just left me with more energy and less time). Anyone have any tips?

I realisation of why this time of year is so popular with adults….Fireworks. Thinking back to childhood, they were OK, but nothing hugely special, but now, they’re ace!
It’s basically because they’re in my world now…..only grown-ups are allowed to play with these things, not you kids! That’s the attraction. You will stand there, you will be quiet, you will enjoy this….and yes I know they’re close, but the garden isn’t that big so put your hands over your ears and prepare to retreat to the house if I shout RUN.
I’ve also discovered this with ‘proper’ train sets, Dom had one for his birthday, it even says on the instructions ‘This Must be Completed by an Adult’! Brilliant, go to bed sunshine Dad is getting out the scalpel and tweezers! It’s now time to explore this new world of stuff that is regarded as fun for kids, but is actually just for me to enjoy (snigger’s in a sinister fashion).

With the arrival of the yougests 4th birthday, the cool presents have started to arrive. We’re talking Action Man, Train Sets, a Tool Kit (with a hammer, which Uncle Lee will never be forgive for).
It just makes you realise how rubbish Christmas can be when you get old; pants, socks, etc. This year will be an exception, me new Gretsch guitar is the best present since…..well since my last guitar when I was about 19. However, as a general rule it can be a bit dissapointing, especially on xmas morning when the kids have an ever growing pile of toys to play with, and you’re left with bath salts and books.
As a result, this year I’m buying everyone toys, proper toys that will make people think ‘did this get mixed up with the kids stuff?’
Time to dig out the Argos catalogue and let rip!
